What is the Robothon®?

The Robothon® – Grand Challenge Series is an international competition in robot manipulation and one of the 4 areas of munich_i

– a new high-tech format of Messe München, automatica and the Munich School of Robotics and Machine Intelligence (MSRM) of the Technical University of Munich (TUM).

At this year’s automatica sprint from 22-24 June 2021, munich_i celebrates its premiere as a hybrid version and brings together leading global thought leaders and personalities from AI and robotics.

Due to uncertain planning during the pandemic and travel restrictions, we have now decided to realize the Grand Challenge 2021 in a 100% digital version!

With this, we want to offer all international academics and young professionals the opportunity to participate in the Robothon®!

NEW DATE & BENEFITS: the Robothon® will take place digitally in the period from 14 May–17 June, 2021!

As a special highlight, the Award Ceremony will take place on 22 June at noon during the Hightech Summit at automatica sprint 2021!

We put our heads together and came up with a new, exciting concept for the digital realization.

WHAT’s NEW?

– You and your team can work remotely

– Teams will need to supply their own robot for the competition

– Each team will receive a competition task board by mail to complete the challenge

– Teams will be given 1 month from receipt of the competition scorecard and task board to develop their solution

– Team performances will be evaluated based on a recorded video submission and a live presentation with the judges

via our digital platform at the end of the working period

– The winning teams will be honored digitally by the jury and sponsors at our Award Ceremony, that will take place at

noon during the Hightech Summit at automatica sprint



WHAT’s the SAME?

– The Robothon® – The Grand Challenge 2021 will focus on the single-arm robot manipulation showcasing

skills for the disassembly and sorting of electronic waste

– The digital concept will continue to be part of munich_i during automatica sprint

– The competition is open to the public and free of charge for selected teams

– Up to 20 teams can participate (2-5 members per team)

– All roboticists (academic and young professional) are encouraged to apply

– Final demonstrations will be evaluated by our Grand Challenge Jury of renowned international thought leaders

– Prizes up to 20,000 € have already collected!

Make Munich – Das Maker- und Do-It-Yourself Festival für die „Selbermacher“ der nächsten Generation

Von 3D Druck haben wir alle schon gehört – aber haben Sie schon mal selbst etwas 3D-gedruckt? Wussten Sie, dass Sie es mit ein paar Tipps in wenigen Stunden schaffen könnten, selbst einen Roboter zu bauen? Begriffe wie Digitalisierung, Internet of Things (IoT) und Virtual Reality umschwirren uns. Aber wie funktioniert das und kann ich das mal ausprobieren? Dafür gibt es die Make Munich: Das Selbermacher-Festival für Tüftlerinnen und Düsentriebe aller Alters- und Erfahrungsstufen.

Die Make Munich ist Süddeutschlands größtes Maker- und Do It Yourself Festival, das Anfang März bereits zum fünften Mal in München stattfindet. 2019 mit gleich 2 Messehallen so groß wie noch nie! Wir erwarten über 10.000 Besucherinnen und Besucher.

Am Wochenende 2. + 3. März 2019 präsentieren die Maker ihre kreativen Ideen, Erfindungen, Projekte, Technologien und ihre offene, bunte Innovationskultur.

An ca. 180 Messeständen und in vielen inspirierenden Vorträgen wird die Maker-Bewegung in ihrer ganzen Bandbreite erlebbar sein. Aber nur „schauen“ und „zuhören“ ist nicht genug. In über 40 Mitmach-Workshops werden alle Fertigkeiten vermittelt, um selbst kreativ und erfinderisch tätig zu werden und selbst Dinge mit digitalen Technologien oder auch ganz traditionell mit den Händen zu fertigen. High-Tech und Low-Tech kann man hier anfassen, erleben und ausprobieren.

Die beiden Make Munich Hauptsponsoren sind unser langjähriger Partner Allnet GmbH  sowie die Siemens AG. Die Hochschule München ist unser zentraler Bildungskooperationspartner. Auch andere Hochschulen und Universitäten zeigen ihre FabLab Initativen und Ideen. Die Make Munich wird gefördert von der Landeshauptstadt München, Referat Arbeit und Wirtschaft.

Was ist Make Munich:
Ist das jährlich stattfindende Münchner Maker und Do-it-Yourself Festival. Ziel der Veranstaltung ist es der Makerszene von Entwicklern, Tüftlern, Designer und Künstlern eine Plattform für Präsentation und Vernetzung zu geben und Besuchern außerhalb dieser Kreise Zugang zu neuen Technologien, Werkstätten und Möglichkeiten der Demokratisierung der Produktionsmittel.
Als Festival „von Makern für Maker“ wird die Organisation der Make Munich zum erheblichen Teil aus der Münchener Maker-Community heraus getragen. Seit 2015 gibt die neu gegründete Make Germany GmbH der Make Munich als Veranstalter ihren festen geschäftlichen und organisatorischen Rahmen. Die Make Germany GmbH ist ein Social Enterprise, das sich die Förderung und Vernetzung der Maker-Szene auf die Fahnen geschrieben hat.

15-foot-tall robots coming to a reality near you!

Boston-based engineers developing humanoid robots meant to be piloted by two people

BOSTON, MASS. — Three engineers are leading a team building fifteen-foot-tall, fighting humanoid robots in Boston, Mass., and they are asking the public for help to pull it off. It might sound like science fiction, but it’s not.
Experienced and talented engineers and entrepreneurs Andrew Stroup, Gui Cavalcanti and Matt Oehrlein have teamed up to turn these robots into reality. At the end of October, they will launch a Kickstarter campaign to take things to the next level.
“People keep asking us, ‘Why build giant fighting robots?’” said Andrew Stroup, Co-Founder of MegaBots, Inc. “Our answer is always, ‘Why not?’” All three were raised on video games, movies and science fiction stories that included giant robots, and decided that it was time to turn their skills to good use.
Since the start of summer, they have built a fully functional torso, cockpit, arm, and two main weapons system of a MegaBot. The cockpit seats two adults, a driver who controls the robot’s movements and the gunner who commands the weapons systems.
„Having the MegaBot aim its cannon at you is a heart-stopping experience,” Gui Cavalcanti, Co-Founder 
of MegaBots, Inc. described. “Even if you know it’s not loaded. Here’s this gigantic, armored humanoid robot three times taller than you are, smoothly and quietly lining up its sights on you – it’s downright terrifying.“
The MegaBots team has completed parts of the dream. Soon, they will ask the public for help with the launch of a Kickstarter campaign. 
“There’s no doubt we want to bring MegaBots to the masses,” Matt Oehrlein, Co-Founder of MegaBots, Inc., proclaimed. “We want to know they want it to happen as bad as we do.”
